My story
In my younger years I’ve always been creative. I’m a very visual person and admittedly, a little bit of a perfectionist.
In 2022, I graduated with a degree in Marketing and headed straight into my first social media management role. Like a fish out of water, but I’m a big believer that to learn you have to do.
Early last year myself and my fiancé took over his parents glamping site, Upsticks Glamping. Here I learned firsthand the trials and tribulations of running a site. Juggling changeovers, admin, marketing, operations, and the rest. Never underestimate the power of a person who has to change 12 beds in 3 hours, check in 16 guests and then make wood fired pizzas for them.
Here I also documented a large portion of our journey and put it on social media platforms TikTok and Instagram. We had a great story, we were 25, both quit our jobs and started something we had little experience in. We hit huge numbers and people were incredibly interested in our journey.
This was great of course, but we had to make sure those viewers transpired into bookings. With my knowledge in social media I knew our page had to be clear, the link had to be in our bio and the booking journey had to be seamless. We turned website traffic into mailing list subscribers into guests. It worked for us.
I took over the social media for Secret Bolthole in August that year after Charlotte expressed that she wanted to come off Airbnb and put the control back into her own hands. By the following January we had generated over 5 million views across platforms, gained 20k followers on Instagram, doubled their mailing list and more importantly generated more direct bookings than ever. Charlotte is now 100% direct and is running at 95% occupancy.
This is where my career as a freelance social media manager in the accommodation industry started for me. I knew my skills could make an impact and they did.
I now run multiple accounts for different accommodation services, from short term rentals to directories.
